The front page navigation is a set of tabled images, that I created in Photoshop using a grid of straight guides to keep my lines straight. I then cut the image up into sections, and reassembled them in an HTML table with no cellspacing or cellpadding.

The images that come clear when you roll your mouse over them are done in Javascript. The "off" or starting image is the blurred version, and then the "on" version is the clear one. Javascript switches the images so fast that it really looks like they're coming into focus when your mouse rolls over! It's a neat optical illusion, because your brain supplies the transition when there really isn't one.

Then the whole page was put into a larger table, to keep the navigation square on the left and the text on the right. On most screens, the whole page ends up not much more than a screen long.
